My Experience
I can build the technical side: the financial models, the data pipelines, and the reporting. More importantly, I know what business leaders need in front of them to make a decision, because I’ve worked directly with executives since the start of my career.
Close to leadership
I’ve reported directly to executives from my first role on. Today I report to the CFO of ModernControls; before that, at Orion Services Group (formerly Astra Service Partners), to the VP of Finance; at CM Biomass, the CEO; at FINRA I worked with C-suite executives, compliance directors, and lead M&A bankers, and learned from my mentor what leaders need to review and decide.
Built around the decision
I start from the question a leader is trying to answer, then build the data to answer it: accurate, timely numbers they can use on their own, instead of hours spent combing through data.
Financial modeling
FP&A forecasting and budgeting that stays accurate as a business grows; cost accounting models across more than 500,000 metric tons of annual production, bridging procurement, manufacturing, and transportation; models of the financial impact of product quality on contracts; and company analysis from financial statements and SEC filings.
Data and analytics
Pipelines in Python and Microsoft Fabric from sources like D365, statistical analysis in Python and R, econometrics including regression discontinuity, Power BI data models and DAX, automated reporting in Power BI and Excel, and predictive and optimization models.
Roles, most recent first.

Graduate Research, Economics
Rice University Department of Economics
Two graduate-level papers on energy policy: an empirical study of whether China’s solar subsidies actually moved investment, and a sole-authored policy paper on how Indonesia is responding to its shift from oil exporter to oil importer.
Indonesia: Energy & Resources Policy
Sole author · working paper on SSRN, May 2026. Traces Indonesia’s path from early OPEC member to net oil importer, as maturing wells cut domestic oil production by 56%, and its pivot to natural gas as a bridge for growth and LNG exports.
- Investment climate: the move from traditional Production Sharing Contracts to Gross Split and Flexible Choice models designed to draw exploration.
- Resource nationalization: the growing role of state-owned Pertamina, highlighted by its 2021 takeover of the Rokan Block.
- National Strategic Projects: a review of Tangguh LNG Train 3 and the Abadi Field.
- Conclusion: Indonesia’s energy security depends on regulatory dynamism and on exploring new deepwater regions to offset depleting reserves.
The Dynamic Impact of Feed-in-Tariffs on Solar Capacity: Evidence from the Chinese Border
Co-authored with Kanwal Deep Singh and Ty Hampton under Dr. Tilsa G. Ore Monago, Aug – Dec 2025. Measures whether China’s 2013 Feed-in-Tariff actually moved solar investment, and how fast.
- Research design: a dynamic spatial regression discontinuity design on a balanced panel of 426 county-year observations along the Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia border, using the sharp jump in subsidy rates between Zone I and Zone III.
- What we found: the subsidized zone gained an additional 68.35 MW of solar capacity by 2016, but only after a three-year implementation lag, with no significant effect in 2013–2015.
- Incentives over geography: the higher-subsidy zone has lower solar radiation yet drew the investment; local GDP didn’t matter, since investment in these inland regions followed central policy and state-owned enterprises.
- Rigor: validated parallel pre-trends (p = 0.96), tested for heteroskedasticity (Breusch-Pagan) and serial correlation (Durbin-Watson 2.12), and used cluster-robust standard errors.

Quantitative Economics Researcher
University of Houston
Quantitative research on energy production, use, and demand across the Asia-Pacific, and on where renewable adoption would pay off most. I was the primary author of the resulting working paper, written under the guidance of Dr. Pablo Troncoso.
Asia’s Renewable Energy Future: A Quantitative Analysis of Development Read on SSRN (opens in a new tab)Nine economies, two datasets
Analyzed energy production, usage, and demand in China, Japan, India, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines, using World Bank and International Energy Agency (IEA) data.
A Renewable Index
Proposed an index that scores each country on GDP, its non-renewable production mix, whether it is a net energy importer, whether it has a framework for increasing renewables, and its CO2 emissions, then ranks countries by where further adoption assistance would do the most good.
Comparing national strategies
Compared the most critical reforms in Japan and South Korea, which lean toward a more nuclear-heavy transition, with India’s solar-first approach, drawing on China’s Five-Year Plans, Japan’s Strategic Energy Plan, and India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change for what works and what doesn’t in renewables policy.
Primary author and analyst
Led the writing of the paper and ran its statistical analysis in Python, R, and Excel, with Dr. Pablo Troncoso as faculty advisor and co-author.

CM Biomass
One of the world’s largest independent biomass trading companies. Founded in Denmark in 2009 in response to Europe’s demand for sustainable, renewable energy, CM Biomass trades more than 3.5 million metric tons of wood pellets a year, along with other biomass such as sunflower husk and peanut hull pellets, and runs the logistics and supply chain behind them across more than 13 countries.
My work covered the data behind three parts of the business (finance, business development, and market research) end to end: from the source systems, through pipelines and data models, to automated Power BI reporting that business units could use on their own.
Cost accounting and financial reporting
Built the cost accounting for logistics across more than 500,000 metric tons of annual wood pellet production, and for raw material procurement: complex modeling that bridged procurement, manufacturing, and transportation. Financial reporting ran through Power BI and Excel, with scheduled refresh so costs were tracked and visualized from the source systems without manual rework.
Data pipelines
Built pipelines in Python and Power Query / Dataflows, running in Microsoft Fabric, that pulled financial data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365), the company’s ERP, alongside business development records and market and trade data, then cleaned and shaped each source into reporting-ready tables.
Data modeling and DAX
Designed the Power BI data models, relating fact and dimension tables so different sources could be analyzed together, and wrote the DAX measures behind the KPIs teams tracked.
Quality and shipping data
Built out data on quality control for the company’s pellet products and on how shipments were loaded onto vessels.
Opening up the data
Gave business units across the company their own view into the data. Teams got accurate, timely numbers to make decisions more efficiently, and spent far less time combing through data to find them.
Project: pellets from Brazilian açaí shells
Supported business development for a potential new supply line: biomass pellets made from açaí shells sourced in Brazil.
- Market sizing: estimated how much raw material was available to make the pellets.
- GIS analysis: used GIS tools to estimate how much capacity a plant could have, and how that capacity would feed into global logistics.
- Financial analysis: worked through the financial data of companies in the region with açaí production, and what partnering with them could look like from a business development perspective.
Project: vessel loading and contract-quality model
The company ships wood pellets from more than 8 US manufacturing plants on dry bulk vessels. I worked on a model to predict the quality metrics each vessel would be loaded at, and the financial impact of lower-quality pellets that might not meet contractual obligations.
- Predictive modeling: forecast the metrics vessels would be loaded at, and what falling short would cost.
- Scenario planning: let users test which plants’ pellets went to which port and onto which vessel, to make sure the company wouldn’t fall behind on its contractual obligations.
- Optimization: framed pellet loading as a two-sided problem across plants, ports, and vessels: maximizing quality control so shipments met contract specifications, while minimizing cost.
Project: biochar facility
CM Biomass was in a unique position: biochar could be sourced from sawmills’ continuous dry kilns (CDKs) and regular kilns, since the material goes through a process similar to traditional biochar pyrolysis. I supported the project on the business development side, working with both the CEO and the business development manager.
- Business development: helped work out how sales of the product could be developed.
- Field work: spent time on the road with the business development manager, traveling through rural Georgia and Alabama.
- Market research: maintained the market research on the opportunity.

Audit Intern
FINRA · Capital Markets Group
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority oversees broker-dealers in the United States. I joined its Capital Markets Group during the summer audit cycle.
Reading the filings
Learned to analyze a company’s 10-K, 10-Q, and similar SEC filings.
Data for decision-makers
My mentor, Chris Tapper, was leading the team’s expanded use of Power BI. Learning directly from him, I saw what business leaders need in front of them to review work and make decisions.
Owning an investigation
I was given real ownership of research into one firm’s unregistered sales of securities totaling more than $3 million. The firm lent to distressed public companies; when they defaulted, repayment came in shares, which were sold before the six-month holding period that SEC Rule 144 requires for restricted securities of reporting companies. I worked through public filings to show the required disclosures were never issued or filed, evidence of the intent to sell.
Summer audit cycle
Wrote and summarized risk reviews on banks with more than $10 million in revenue, covering market activity and the outside business activities (OBAs) of licensed members, and how both had changed since the last cycle. Along the way I worked with C-suite executives, compliance directors, and lead bankers on M&A deals.
